The Society for Arts launches its new exhibition season with a painting exhibit of Artur Popek, one of the most outstanding contemporary Polish artists. Nearly thirty works from last two years will be on display during Bestiarium & Around show in 1112 Gallery (1112 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago). The exhibition opens on May 3rd and continues until July 3, 2013.

Artur Popek, Dean of Art Faculty at the Maria Sklodowska-Curie University in Lublin now, hasgained a worldwide reputation mainly as an author of unique microscopic prints executed mostly in various metal techniques. The perfectly made miniatures are composed with extraordinary precision and attention to numerous details. Characterized by allusion and ambiguity they reflect a surrealistic vision of the world, being origion of an artistic philosophy of Artur Popek. In recent years, however, the artist has concentrated on a search for new painterly means of expression. In the series presented on display he explores methaporic references to the modern world in a realm of animals. His creatures in Bestiarium series are characterized by fructures and deformations; yet these qualities, natural for human beings, don’t deprive the animals of their extraordinary appeal. Peregrinations, the other cycle of paintings constitutes poetic reflections on his numerous journeys to various countries made lately. The works here are first of all images of the artist’s emotional transpositions of his impressions and observations. Furthermore, a fascinating texture combined with a pursuit for its color equivalent make Popek’s painting particularly interesting.

In the 2013 North American tour the new works by Artur Popek are going to be shown in Chicago, New York, Buffalo, Madison and Cincinnati.

The artist will appear at the opening on Friday, May 3rd from 6:30 to 9:00 in the evening. He will answer questions and sign both exhibition poster as well as a new coffee table book of the art collection of Chris Sztyber; this most extensive collection of contemporary Polish art works in North America includes also a great number of Artur Popek’s paintings.

1112 Gallery accepts orders and reservations of the exhibited works which will be available to corporate and individual buyers upon the show’s conclusion.

The gallery is open to a general public Tuesday to Sunday from noon to 6:00 pm. Closed on Monday and on days of special events. Admission is free.
